ISRAEL

14 people connected with Faith & Football undertook a trip to Israel to see the Bible Lands and trace the steps of Jesus and other biblical giants. The majority of the group had never been so it was with much excitement that the visit was planned and prepared for.

The itinerary was comprehensive encompassing the whole breadth of Israel. Starting in Haifa we journeyed to Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Eilat and finally Tel Aviv.

In Haifa we had the privilege of meeting with the small Kerem-El congregation and introducing walking football to their regular outreach group including both Jews and Arabs. Football is such a marvellous tool for bringing people from such diverse backgrounds together. Whilst based in Haifa the group toured to Caesarea to see Herod’s Palace, experience an authentic boat ride on the sea of Galilee and stand in awe at the site where Jesus gave His teaching on the beatitudes.

There were so many highlights en route all of which are now etched in the memories of all those who travelled. Jerusalem, God’s very own City, with the Mount of Olives, the Western wall, the Garden Tomb and the harrowing Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. Sites and places that brought the Bible passages we read and history to life. Masada, the Qumran Caves where the dead sea scrolls were found, En Gedi the hiding place of David when he was being pursued by King Saul and so much more.  A trip both memorable and significant to each of us on our Christian journeys.
