JOEL WARD

I was brought up at the New Life Christian Centre in Emsworth where my parents were not only leaders but they also looked after the building where I lived from the age of two. The Centre was also a missionary training centre with many students from abroad. So I went to church every week from a very early age and my faith has grown over the years to the point now where it’s a big part of my life.

My faith has shaped who I am now and what I stand for. It keeps me grounded in my career as a footballer, and my aim is to use the footballing ability I have been given to glorify God.

I would be lying if I said that it’s been easy for me to be a Christian in the football world, but my team-mates give me no problems in the dressing room and are understanding and accepting of my faith.

I have been so blessed and am so thankful for the progress I have been able to make in my career. It’s been amazing and a dream come true to play regular first team football.

I definitely feel that I am fulfilling God’s plan and purpose for my life. I am conscious that I am in an area of influence as a footballer in the world and the community, and try to be salt and light wherever I go, and to give something back in return.
